The Online Interactive Listening Labs run directly in your web browser, using your computer's speakers or headphones and a microphone. There is nothing to install and no plug-ins are required.
To use the Listening Labs you will need:
A current version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
A working microphone, either built into your computer or connected to it. A headset with a microphone will give you the clearest recordings.
Speakers or headphones.
An internet connection.
The first time you open a Listening Lab, your browser will ask for permission to use your microphone. You must choose Allow for the recording features to work.
Headphones are strongly recommended. If you listen through speakers, your microphone may pick up the coach's voice while you are recording yourself.
If the Listening Lab buttons appear frozen or will not respond, the most common cause is that your browser does not have permission to use your microphone.
Look for a microphone icon in your browser's address bar. If it shows a blocked or crossed-out symbol, click it, set the microphone to Allow, and then reload the page.
If you were never asked for permission:
Check that another program or browser tab is not already using the microphone, and close it if one is.
Confirm that the correct microphone is selected as the input device in your computer's sound settings.
Reload the page and choose Allow when your browser asks for microphone access.
If the buttons still do not respond, try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge).
